THE BOOKS OF THE CHURCH

 

(Horologion) – the main parts of Vespers, Apodeipnon, Midnight Hour, Matins, and the Hours.

 

(Minaion) – the hymns dedicated to the saints of each day of the year at Vespers and Matins.

 

(Paraklitiki) – the hymns for each day of the week, in the eight Byzantine tones.

 

(Psalter) – the 150 Psalms of King David, arranged in blocks called the “Kathismata”.

 

(Apostle) - the epistle readings arranged in three ways – for saints’ days, for the weeks counted from Pascha, and for the mysteries (sacraments).

 

(Engolpion) -  small manual with special seasonal hymns for entrances, communion and Katavasies.
