A TRIBUTE TO HELEN GOVATOS |
||
On June 18, 2006, Mrs. Helen Govatos (96), after a long illness, fell asleep in the Lord in Tupelo, Mississippi. Mrs. Govatos, a homemaker, lived in Corpus Christi for many years. Helen, as she liked to be called, was a very kind and compassionate person. She helped everyone that she could, in so many different ways. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-five years, Clem Govatos; her parents, Nick Deonesia and Georgoulous Giannukos; her brothers John and Sam Giannukos; her sisters Fofo Sfiris and Georgia Platis. She is survived by her sisters-in-law Mrs. Bealyo Giannukos of Houston, Texas, and Mrs. Marika Govatos of Corpus Christi, Texas; her nephew, George Govatos of Tupelo, Mississippi, and numerous other nephews and nieces, great nephews and nieces, and great-great nephews and nieces. Helen Govatos was a charter member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Corpus Christi. In 1995 she moved to Tupelo, Mississippi to live with her nephew, George Govatos. Helen was also a charter and very faithful member of the The Delphi Club, a ladies organization of our parish. She also served as a member of the Parish Council from 1992 thru 1995. In addition she sang in the Church Choir for many years. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church with the Reverend Stelios Sitaras officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Lee George Govatos, Lee John Govatos, Dr. Nick Giannukos, John Sfiris, Stewart Platis, Chris Ballas, Mike Ballases, and John Welch. The 40-day memorial service will be held on July 30, 2006 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Memphis,. Tennessee. Donations in memory of Helen Govatos can be made to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, P. O. Box 343, Corpus Christi, Texas 78403. Mrs. Govatos truly loved her Church and she will be missed by all who knew her. May her memory be eternal! |
