FEBRUARY 2007

WEDDING:

          On January 27, 2007, Anna Halkias, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Vasilios Halkias, and Vasilios Piperis, son of Mr. & Mrs. George Piperis, were married in the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church with the Reverend Stelios Sitaras officiating. John Tsambounieris served as Best Man and Miss Anastasia Papamanolis was the Maid of Honor. Following the wedding ceremony a lavish reception and dinner was held at the Kings Crossing Country Club. The couple will make their home in Corpus Christi. Congratulations!

 

EPIPHANY DAY SEASHORE SERVICES:

          On Sunday, January 7, 2007, the Feast of the Holy Epiphany was celebrated with the Blessing of the Waters at the Lawrence Street T-Head immediately following the Divine Liturgy. Divers this year were Alexis Mays, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Bill Mays; Konstantinos Papakostas, son of Mr. & Mrs. Angelo Papakostas; and John Piperis, son of Mr. & Mrs. George I. Piperis. The cross was retrieved by John Piperis, who was presented with a gold cross by Father Stelios. Congratulations!

 

IN APPRECIATION:

           We would like to express our appreciation to Joseph Afram for donating the lovely gold cross and chain that was presented to the diver who retrieved the cross during the Blessing of the Waters service. Many thanks also to Hala Ghably for donating the commemorative T-shirts that the divers wore while diving for the cross. Their generosity and thoughtfulness are greatly appreciated.

 

ACHIEVEMENT:

           In January, Elena Andreadis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Andreadis, auditioned for the All City Middle School Band and was selected as the “First Chair”clarinet. Elena also auditioned for the All Regional Middle School Band and was selected as the “Second Chair” clarinet. Elena is in the seventh grade at Baker Middle School. Congratulations!

AFFIRMATION OF OFFICE ADMINISTERED TO THE NEW PARISH COUNCIL:

           On Sunday, January 28, 2007, Father Sitaras administered the “Affirmation of Office” to the members of the 2007 Parish Council. Members of the new Parish Council are Horacio Ortiz - President; Andrew Christos - Vice-President; and Miss Olga Plomarity - Secretary-Treasurer. Vacancies on the Parish Council that still remain open after the last election will be filled by appointments to be made by the members of the new parish council. Those appointed will assume office once their appointment is ratified by Metropolitan Isaiah.

TRAVELERS

          On Friday, January 18, 2007, Harry Plomarity flew to Denver,Colorado to attend the meeting of the Denver Metropolis Council. Plans for the Metropolis Clergy-Laity Assembly to be held in Oklahoma City in May were discussed. Harry returned to Corpus Christi on Sunday, January 21st.

 

ENGAGEMENT:

          Athena Collins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randall Vogel, and John Cannon announced their engagement on December 21, 2006. Date for the wedding will be announced. Congratulations!

 

HOLIDAY VISITORS:

Visiting family, relatives and friends over the Christmas holidays were were the following:

From Washington, D.C.: Billy Louis Sissamis, son of Mr.and Mrs. Louis Sissamis and grandson of Mrs. Ann Sissamis.

From Dallas, Texas: Dean Lontos, son of Mrs. Katherine Lontos.

From Houston, Texas: Georgia and Chris Butta and children, daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren of Mrs. Katherine Lontos.

From Dallas, Texas: Miss Pauline Hallick, daughter of Dr. & Mrs. Nicholas T. Hallick.

From New York City: Demetri Karagas, son of Dr. & Mrs. Mike Karagas and grandson of Mr. & Mrs. Alex Kantralis.

From Houston, Texas: Denise Eliades and son Daniel, daughter and grandson of Dr. and Mrs. Mel Eliades.

From Lubbock, Texas: John Chriss and Olivia Chriss , son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Chriss and grandchildren of Dr. and Mrs. John W. Chriss.

We hope all our visitors had an enjoyable time over the holidays visiting their families, relatives and friends.

RETIRED:

         After forty-six years in the medical profession, Dr. Mel Eliades retired as of January 19, 2007 He plans to enjoy his retirement by working in his garden and traveling. We wish Mel and Ann the best of luck.

 

HOSPITALIZED:

        Juan Valverde underwent surgery in January and is now recovering at home. We wish him speedy recovery.

        On January 12th Mrs. Helen Kandis of Victoria, Texas was rushed to Methodist Hospital in Houston where she underwent surgery for an aneurysm. She remained in the hospital for several days and is now recuperating in Houston before returning to Victoria. We wish her a speedy recovery.

        Mrs. Elena Chita underwent surgery in January and is now recovering at home. She would very much like to hear from her friends in Corpus Christi. She may be reached at 1-325- 388-2376. We wish Elena a speedy recovery.

OMISSION:

        In the January, 2007 bulletin , we inadvertently omitted the name of John Hartofilax, who along with Nick Sissamis, donated the luncheon for the Church’s Christmas Party. We regret the omission.

CONDOLENCES:

         George Andrew Constant, M.D. of Victoria, Texas, fell asleep in the Lord on January 13, 2007. He came to Victoria in 1952 to pursue his career in psychiatry. He continued his practice until his death. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Ruth L. Constant of Victoria; his sons, Anthony Constant and his wife, Madlyn of Snowmass Village, Colorado and Nicholas J. Constant of Austin; a sister, Mary Helen Corrigan of West Hills, California, and several granddaughters, nephews and nieces. Funeral services were held at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Victoria. May his memory be eternal!.

        C. Gus Adams fell asleep in the Lord on January 23. 2007. Gus was very active and devoted to his Church. He is survived by his two sisters, Georgia (James) Davis of Corsicana, Texas and Paulette (John) Wilson of San Antonio, Texas; three brothers, Nick Adams and Michael Bonich of Corpus Christi and Tom (Theresa) Morrison of Mesquite, Texas; and numerous niece, nephews, great and great, great nieces and nephews. A trisagion service was held on Wednesday, January 25, 2007 and the funeral service was held Thursday morning, January 26 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church with the Reverend Stelios Sitaras officiating. May his memory be eternal! A 40-day Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 4,2007.

MEMORIAL AND TRISAGION SERVICES:

         On December 31, 2006, Father Stelios Sitaras held a forty-day Trisagion Service for his father, Reverend Nicholas Sitaras of North Carolina, who fell asleep in the Lord on November26, 2006 May his memory be eternal!

         On Sunday, February 4, 2007, a nine month memorial service will be held for Mrs. Sophia Lignos, mother of Mrs. Maria L. Sissamis. Mrs. Lignos died on May 6, 2006. The memorial coffee will be hosted by Mrs. Sissamis and family. May her memory be eternal!

FEBRUARY COFFEE HOUR:

        The “Fellowship Hour” after the Divine Liturgy provides the parishioners the opportunity to greet our visitors and visit with one another.  It also provides a time to hold memorial coffees, and to celebrate anniversaries, birthdays, and other events. Parishioners who would like to host the coffee hour should sign their name on the poster in the Church Hall.
