SEPTEMBER 2007

VISITORS:

Mrs. Toula Giannakopoulos and daughter Konstantina from Sparta, Greece, were the guests of Doctor Nick and Freida Hallick and their granddaughter Dincy Hallick. Konstantina is a junior in Lyceum in Sparta and prior to visiting Corpus Christi she attended the Columbia University summer program for the month of July. Konstantina and Dincy became friends while Dincy was last visiting Greece. Mrs. Giannakopoulos is a professor of economics in Sparta and Konstantina already has a full scholarship to any University in Greece, but she would prefer Columbia University in New York. Elena Andreadis was also a guest of Dincy and she participated in showing Corpus Christi to Konstantina. The Giannakopouloses returned to Greece on the 4th of August.

George Livaditis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Livaditis, arrived August 8th for a visit with his parents and to undergo knee surgery. We wish him a speedy recovery. George will be leaving shortly to return to Brookline, Massachusetts, where he will resume his studies as a seminarian at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology.

For a week in August, Father Stelios Sitaris had as his houseguests his two daughters, Melina and Alexia from Houston, Texas. We hope they had an enjoyable visit with their father before returning to Houston on August 12th.

TRAVELERS:

On August 3rd, Mr. & Mrs. Harry Plomarity, together with their daughters, Olga and Constance, son-in-law Gilbert and grandchildren, Demetri and Sophia, flew to Dallas, Texas to attend the fortieth wedding anniversary of Harry's brother and sister-in-law, Milton and Susie Plomarity. While in Dallas, they got to see many of their friends and relatives. On Sunday, August 5th, they attended services at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church before returning home.

Mrs. Maria Papakosta and her three children, Sophia, Manoli and Konstantinos, flew to Orlando, Florida on August 16 where they spent the week visiting the attractions at Disney World, including Animal Kingdom, Epcot Center and Universal Studio. While visiting Disney World, they stayed at the Nickelodeon Hotel, which the children enjoyed immensely. They returned home on August 23.

FOOD HANDLERS CLASS:

Everyone who plans to work at the Greek Festival and will handle food, pastries or drinks, in any way, must have a valid Food Handler's card. A class will be held on Sunday, October 7, 2007 in the Church Hall following the Coffee Hour. Effective August 1st, the cost of the health card is $10.00, payable in cash only, and will be good for two years.

ARTOCLASIA SERVICES:

On Sunday, August 6, 2007, the Feast of the Transfiguration of Christ, an Artoclasia Service was held by Mrs. Sophia Piperis for the health of her family.

On August 14, the Eve of the Dormition ofthe Theotokos, an Artoclasia Service was held by Mrs. Irene Piperis, following Vesper Services, for the health of her family.

On August 15, the Feast ofthe Dormition ofthe Theotokos, an Artoclasia Service was: held by Mrs. Penelope Livaditis for the health of her family.

CONGRA TULATIONS:

In July, 2007, George Pollakis was elected President ofthe Coastal Bend Restaurant Association and Lisa Pollakis was elected rd Vice President of the Association for a one year term. We congratulate George and Lisa for this great honor.

CATECHISM SCHOOL:

Catechism School classes will begin on Sunday, September 16th• All parents, with children ages 4 through 16, should register their children. Registration forms may be found elsewhere in this bulletin. Please turn in the forms to Father Stelios or to Miss Olga Plomarity.

CONDOLENCES:

On August 11,2007, Mrs. Ann (Anastasia) Tahinakos Menedez (80) fell asleep in the Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Panagiota Tahinakos. Funeral Services were held on Monday, August 13, 2007 at the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church with Father Stelios Sitaras officiating. May her memory be eternal!

On August 14, 2007, Mrs. Frances L. Sissamis (79) fell asleep in the Lord. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul. She is survived by her sons William (Mary), George, Elias, Leon and Nick Sissamis, all of Corpus Christi, Texas, step-daughter, Paulette Koveal (Russell) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, her sister, Irene Mihailos of Staten Island, New York and numerous nephews, nieces and grandchildren. Funeral services were held on August 18, 2007 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church with Father Stelios officiating. May her memory be eternal!

On August 24,2007, Dale L. Gunnar (82) fell asleep in the Lord. Mr. Gunnar was the owner of Parkdale Printing, the company that has printed our monthly bulletins for nearly fifteen years, in addition to taking care of all our other printing needs over these many years. The parishioners of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church extend their condolences to his wife and children. May his memory be eternal!

COFFEE HOUR:

Parishioners wishing to host the 'coffee hour' after the Divine Liturgy on Sundays should sign their names on the poster in the Church Hall. Ladies, please help. and volunteer to host the coffee hour. By doing so, the task will not fall on the same· ladies to host the coffee hour each Sunday. The "Fellowship Coffee" provides us the opportunity to meet our visitors and to visit with each other. Thank you!
