OCTOBER 2006 40 DAY BLESSING: On August 27, 2006 forty day blessings took place for Mrs. Anna Maragakis and her newborn son Emanuel; and for Mrs. Julie Malouf and her newborn son Andrew. Congratulations! ACHIEVEMENT: On Friday, September 15, 2006, Mrs. Constance Plomarity Sanchez, Assistant Director of Financial Services for the City of Corpus Christi, graduated from a Certified Public Manager course offered by Texas State University’s William P. Hobby Center for Public Service in cooperation with Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi. The course is a nationally accredited comprehensive management development program specifically for managers in federal, state and local government. Local participants in the course included employees of the city of Corpus Christi, Nueces County and the state. Constance now holds the titles of both C.P.A. and C.P.M. Congratulations! BOOK REVIEW: On September 4, 2006, Grant Mays, age 7, was featured in the Corpus Christi Caller-Times for his review of the book “Barney Beagle and the Cat” by Jean Bethell, at the Parkdale Branch Library. Grant is the son of Mr. & Mrs. William M. Mays. Congratulations! NEW RESIDENT: On September 17, 2006, Ms. Kelly Stamatiadis moved to Corpus Christi from New York City. . She will be living with her sister and brother-in-law, Maria and Angelo Papakostas. We welcome Kelly to Corpus Christi. “Kalosorisate! TRAVELERS: On July 16, 2006, Mrs. Ann Shibylo left on a trip to North East Pennsylvania and Syracuse, New York to visit her family and friends. While there she attended the 50th wedding anniversary of her sister in Syracuse. Mrs. Shibylo returned to Corpus Christi on July 30, 2006. We were glad to hear that she had a very enjoyable vacation. Harry Plomarity left September 22nd for Denver, Colorado to attend the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Denver Metropolis Assumption Cathedral. Special guests at the celebration included His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Metropolitan Isaiah of Denver, Metropolitan Nicholas of Detroit, Bishop John of Amorion, and many of the clergy that served at the Cathedral during the past 100 years. GREEK FESTIVAL: As announced previously the 2006 Greek Festival will be held on October 13, 14, and 15th on the Church grounds. Festival Chairman this year is Nick P. Sissamis and we are very grateful for all his hard work. However we need everyone’s help in order to insure the success of the festival. Please volunteer to work as much as you can. We need all the help we can get. Dinner tickets were mailed out to everyone and all parishioners are asked to sell their tickets and to turn in their money to the Treasurer, Harry Plomarity, as soon as possible. We wish to extend special thanks to William Vaseliades for arranging for the many billboards throughout the town advertising the festival and especially for underwriting the cost. HOSPITALIZED: Several parishioners in Corpus Christi, Victoria, and other area cities, were hospitalized during the month of September. We wish them all a speedy recovery and ask that we remember them all in our prayers. MEMORIAL SERVICES: On September 18th, 2006, a one Memorial Service was held for Mrs. Afrodite Legakis, who fell asleep in the Lord, on September 22, 2005. She was the mother of Mrs. Fotini Papakosta and George Legakis. A Memorial luncheon hosted by Mrs. Papakosta was held in the Church Hall following the Divine Liturgy. May her memory be eternal! On September 24, 2006, a Memorial Service was held for Christos Kaminopoulos of Greece who fell asleep in the Lord on September 14, 2004. He was the husband of Mrs. Erasmia Kaminopoulos of Greece and the father of Mrs. Dora Thomas of Corpus Christi. The coffee hour following the Divine Liturgy was hosted by Mrs. Dora Thomas. May his memory be eternal! On October 8, 2006, a forty day Memorial Service will be held for Johnny H. Corovinis of Houston, Texas. Mr. Corovinis fell asleep in the Lord on July 27, 2006. He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Lula Christos of Victoria, Texas; his four children, Helen Lafieur and Ruby Sharpe of Spring, Texas; Elvira Harrison of Houston, and son Ruben Rios, Jr. of Houston, Texas. The coffee hour following the Divine Liturgy and memorial service will be hosted by Mrs. Christos. May his memory be eternal! Ladies, please help and volunteer to host the coffee hour. By doing so, the task will not fall on the same ladies each Sunday. The “Fellowship Hour” provides us the opportunity to meet our visitors, and to visit with each other. Thank you!
