JULY 2006

ENGAGEMENT:On Sunday, June 18, 2006, Vasilios George Piperis, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Piperis became engaged to Anna Halkias, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vasilios Halkias of Cleveland, Ohio. The wedding date has not yet been set. Congratulations and we wish them “Kala Stefana”.

WEDDINGS:On June 24, 2006, Latife Bechara and Benito Medina were married at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Latife is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Abraham Bechara and Benito is the son of Meregildo and the late Eustacia Medina. A reception followed at the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Hall. The following day their wedding was solemnized at the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. The couple will make their home in Corpus Christi. Congratulations!

TRAVELERS:On May 29, 2006, Mr. & Mrs. Ted Andreadis and their two children left Corpus Christi for a two week’s vacation in Greece. They returned on June 15th, 2006. We were happy to hear that they had a very enjoyable time in Greece. Welcome back!

In June, Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Quinton of Kingsville, Texas, traveled to Mexico to attend a meeting. After their return trip, they flew to Pennsylvania where they visited with family and friends. We hope their trips were enjoyable.

Mr. & Mrs. Harry Plomarity and Olga drove to Houston, Texas on June 24th to attend the 50th wedding anniversary celebration of Harry’s sister and brother-in-law, Frances and John Papajohn. Also attending the celebration was Constance and Gilbert Sanchez and their children, Demetri and Sophia. An elegant dinner and reception, attended by many family members and friends, was held at The Houstonian. On Sunday during the Divine Liturgy at the Annunciation Cathedral, Frances and John were honored for their devoted service to the church and a special prayer was said in recognition of their 50th anniversary.

Many of our parishioners from the island of Karpathos, left recently to spend the summer in Spoa. They plan to return in late August or September. We know they will have a very enoyable time in Greece visiting friends and relatives.

Mrs. Dora Thomas and her mother, Mrs. Erasmia Kaminopoulou, left on June 25th for Greece, so Dora’s mother could return to her home in Greece. Dora will then return to Corpus Christi on July 19th. It was good to see Mrs. Kaminopoulou again and we hope she will come back to Corpus Christi for another visit soon.

Mr. & Mrs. Montell Aldridge left in June for Germany where they will visit with Thea’s parents. We know they will have a nice time visiting with family and friends.

Father Stelios will leave for Greece on July 10, 2006 for a two week vacation. There will be no services on July 16th and July 23rd . However, the church will be open for anyone who wishes to light a candle and say a prayer. Father will return to Corpus Christi on July29th. We hope he will have an enjoyable and relaxing time.

FAREWELL LUNCHEON:On July 8, 2006, a luncheon will be held for Bill and Mary Chriss who will be moving to Austin, Texas, the latter part of this month. The luncheon will be held at Niko’s Restaurant at 5409 Saratoga. Anyone who will like to attend, please notify Dr. Nicholas Hallick. Cost of the luncheon is $40.00 a person and the proceeds will go to the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.

FORTY DAY BLESSING:

On Sunday, June 4, Mrs. Maria Stendebach of League City, Texas and her baby daughter, Megan Elizabeth, received their forty day blessing. Congratulations.

On Sunday, June 11, Mrs. Fotini Papakosta and her baby daughter, Afroditi, received their forty day blessing. Congratulations.

VISITORS:Staci Paraskevas Jones and her two children, Samantha and Austin, of Lacey, Washington, arrived in Corpus Christi on June 6, 2006 for a visit with Staci’s parents, George and Peggy Paraskevas. Staci’s husband, Scott, joined them two weeks later. While here, Staci, Scott and children also visited with other members of the family: staci’s grandmother, Mrs. Tasia Paul, her sister and brother-in-law, Litsa and Robert Guerra, and her brother John Paraskevas. We hope their stay here was enjoyable.

HOSPITALIZED:

Mrs. Frances Sissamis was admitted to Bay Area Medical Center on June 6th..

Also hospitalized at Bay Area Medical Center during June was Mrs. Tasia Paul. Both ladies have been released and are recuperating at home. Let’s keep them both in our prayers.

CONDOLENCES:On Saturday, June 17, 2006, Mrs. Helen Govatos, of Tupelo, Mississippi, and a long-time former resident of Corpus Christi, fell asleep in the Lord. She is survived by her nephew, George Govatos of Tupelo , sisters-in-law Marika Govatos of Corpus Christi and Bealyo Giannukos of Houston and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held in Corpus Christi on Thursday, June 22nd with Father Stelios Sitaras officiating.

MEMORIAL AND TRISAGION SERVICES:

Trisagion Services were held on June 4th, for Mrs. Elsie Adams, who died on June 5, 1987. Mrs. Adams was the mother of Gus Adams, Mrs. Georgia Davis, Mrs. Paulette Wilson, Nick Adams, Tommy Morrison and Mike Bonich. May her memory be eternal!

On June 25th, Trisagion Services were held for Mrs. June Nicols who passed away on June 27, 1985 and James Adams who died June 22, 1998. They were the aunt and brother of Gus Adams, Mrs. Georgia Davis, Paulette Wilson, Nick Adams, Tommy Morrison and Mike Bonich. May their memory be eternal.

On June 18th, 2006, a forty day Memorial Service was held for Gregory and Patsy Kandis of Victoria, Texas. Patsy died on May 10, 2006 and Gregory died two days later on May 12, 2006. The memorial coffee was hosted by the Christos and Kandis families. May their memory be eternal!
